This workshop educates parents and guardians on the mostcommon social media apps their children are using and howto engage with these apps safely. Summer Semester 2024
We will not be running summer school in the summer 2024 semester.
Students can take summer school courses with any school board. Students are responsible for researching what other school boards offer. Students must apply to these summer school programs as a homeschooled student.
Registration for the 2024-25 school year
Registration for the 2024-25 school year will open on Wednesday, March 20th 2024 at 10 am. Registration closes on May 10th at 10 am.
We are expecting a high volume of registrations on our opening day. Please keep in mind that this may cause some delays in pages loading while you are completing the registration process.
New Students:

Please note that after submitting a new registration you will be required to verify your email address(es) before you will receive your confirmation email.
Former Students:
If you have applied for courses before or have taken any courses with VLC, you will need to request that your account be reactivated. Click on Register and choose “Click here to Register”. If you don’t remember your username, password or your account has been made inactive, you can complete the form on the registration page.

Additional Information:
When your application has been reviewed further email instructions will be sent to you (please check your junk mail folder). All documents uploaded are manually reviewed. Once they have been reviewed, your profile will be updated to indicate we have received all of your documents. We appreciate your patience as we review a large number of registrations. If additional documentation is required students will be emailed. Please do not call the office to confirm documents have been uploaded as you can access this from your student profile by clicking “upload documents.”

The Virtual Learning Centre has been offering Ontario Secondary School students a wide range of flexible, and well-designed high school courses since 1997. It is a renowned program that is unlike any other eLearning initiative in Ontario.
The VLC offers students a full range of learning opportunities powered by the latest online technologies available.
We are committed to setting very high standards for distance learning and know that the student-teacher interaction is key to student success. For this reason, we encourage all of our students to attend web meetings, and to adhere to the course schedule and all due dates. This level of rigor builds a strong work ethic and forges a classroom and school community thereby preparing our students for post-secondary studies.

Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test – OSSLT
VLC students who are in grade 10 (born in or after 2008), 11 or 12 will have the option to write in our Spring Session

Our Courses
All of our courses are taught by highly qualified Ontario teachers who understand how to blend the power of synchronous, streamed communication with the flexibility of static, anywhere-anytime course content. Students succeed in our program and our attrition rates (under 20%) demonstrate that our program works for most learners.
How are online courses taught?
When you register for an online course within the Virtual Learning Centre, you will be provided with login information such as a username and id. You will also receive an Internet address (URL) to your course. When you login for the first time, an introductory message from your teacher will greet you. This message will outline the course content and describe how the course will be delivered and what is required of you. Although all of the Virtual Learning Centre’s online courses look the same, your teacher is ultimately in charge of how the course will run.
Who teaches the online courses?
Certified teachers who are employed within the Trillium Lakelands District School Board deliver online course material for the Virtual Learning Centre. Each teacher receives training and support so that they are comfortable with the online approach to both teaching and learning.
Will I benefit from online courses?
In most cases, this form of course delivery works well. Obvious prerequisites include motivation, computer familiarity, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Remember, though, that although there is daily contact with others in the class, there may not be any face to face meetings. For students with some learning styles, taking online courses may not be an appropriate choice.
